Starting Tuesday, May 12, it will be against the law for anyone other than the learner to book, change, or cancel a driving test. If your instructor has been handling your test bookings for you — which has been the norm until now — make sure to check your booking right away and verify that it’s in your name on https://www.gov.uk/

What: Only the learner can now book and manage their test appointment.
Where: This applies to all centres, including Goodmayes Test Centre on High Road, Ilford.
When: This rule takes effect on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
Who’s impacted: All learner drivers with a current or upcoming booking.
A couple more things to keep in mind: you’ve already been limited to two booking changes total since March 31. Starting June 9, you’ll only be able to reschedule your test to nearby centres — no more moving it across the country.

Best advice: Log into Gov.UK now, check that your booking is under your name, and grab your instructor's reference number to add to your booking.
